Nirvana academy celebrates World earth day 2014

Jammu, 22 April 2014:
To celebrate the World Earth Day 2014 and spread the message of this year’s theme – “Green Cities” – an impressive awareness event was organized on 22nd April, 2014, at  Central Park Bahu Plaza Jammu by J & K State Pollution Control Board in collaboration with Nirvana Academy - a cultural club and Mindscape Environmental & Educational Trust. Diverse activities related to the Art work/ poster making/ painting competition were carried out among professional, amateur and budding artist.
Sh. Vinod Ranjan IFS, Chairman, J&K  State Pollution Control Board Jammu was the Chief Guest and Sh. Shantmanu Divisional Commissioner Jammu was the Guest of Honor on the occasion.  Smt. Shushma Chouhan Vice Chairman JDA was the special guest on the occasion along with Sh. R C Puri, Secretary Indian Red Cross Jammu Region.
The awareness event comprised of  two events namely “Green Cities – Exploring a Thought on the Canvas to support Mother Earth” in which over 15 budding artists Ankit Sudan, Narinder Kumar, Anjali Bharti, Vikas Sharma, Nimisha Dubey, Harshika Nargotra, Kamaljeet Kour, Mahua Gupta, Neha Sharma, Marvi Sharma, Risha Chib, Kanchan Ballowria, Rigzin Palzor hailing from Poonch, Udhampur Hiranagar , Kathua and Samba  participated and displayed their innovative thoughts to support  the theme - Green Cities.
100 students from different schools and Art Schools participated in a painting competition under four different categories to show their support and spirit for the mother earth. The thoughts painted by them came up with convincing solutions to the issues.   The paintings depicted mitigative actions and sustainable solutions  in making the earth a livable place. Painting Competition was adjudged by Sh. Ankush Kesar and Sh. Rohit Verma, artists of national eminence.
The Highlight of the World Earth Day Campaign was the participation of Sh. Chander  Shakher renowned Cartoonist along with Sh. Jaswal and Sh K.K Gandhi renowned artist who explored their creative ideas and took a pledge to make Earth a better place to live. Their presentations primarily stressed the important role of diverse plant species, which can sustain Earth's natural resources for the future of urban cities.
A number of people visited the event site and appreciated the concept of on spot artwork combined with the message of Green Cities on World Earth Day.
Sh. Vinod Ranjan, IFS, Chairman, J&K SPCB, Chief Guest on the occasion said that the objective of celebrating such events with specific  themes is to raise awareness, both on the potential for increased co-operation and on the challenges facing our cities due to depleting forest cover, polluted rivers, unsafe drinking water,  high levels of pollutants in the air, waste disposal. He  appealed to all the citizens to keep Jammu Clean and Green.  He further said that the onus lies on each one of us to make that difference.
Sh. Vinod Ranjan, Sh, Shantmanu and Smt. Sushma Chauhan interacted with the artist and appreciated their work on canvas. All the young artists were honored with an Award  along with a certificate of participation for their support on this day.
Present on the occasion were Sh. Arun Tikku, Member Secretary, SPCB, Sh. Sajjad Mufti, Regional Director, SPCB, Ms. Neelu Sharma, Principal Scientific Officer, SPCB, other officers and officials of the Board.
The programme was conducted by Ms. Akhila Magotra and Miss Bushra Hasan Educationist & Entrepreneur.  She talked about the importance of this day and about the purpose of organizing the World Earth Day with the innovative thought by the organizers, supported by various organisations and volunteers.
