Jammu, 29 April: Nirvana Academy Cultural Club in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages on Tuesday organized a Hindustani Classical Music Concert “Mangal Dhwani” at K.L Saigal Hall, Jammu. Sh. R.C Puri Secretary Indian Red Cross Society Jammu region was the chief guest on the occasion while Sh. Krishan Lal Verma Retd. HOD fine Arts College was the guest of honour on the occasion. Programme started with the welcome note addressed by Dr. Sudhir Mahajan followed by Hindustani classical music recital by Rakesh Kalotra.
Classical music lovers of Jammu city were feted to mesmerizing
performance of most promising youngster Rakesh Kalotra who commenced his recital with Badha Khayal in raag Madhuwanti “Suniye nath gareeb nawaz” followed by chota khayal “Unhi so mori lagan lagi re”. He also recited “Batoon batoon mei beet gyi raat” a thumri in Mishr Pahari raag and he concluded with “Koi kahiyo re prabhu bhavan ki maan bhavan ki” a bhajan in raag Bharaavi.
Rakesh Kalotra is the most promising young Hindustani Classical singer from Arneia R.S Pura Jammu who is earlier disciple of P.K Zalali and Sunayna Koul. He presently commenced his training from Ojesh Partap who is disciple of Padam Bushan Pt. Ulhas Karhalkar of Gwalior gharana.
Neeraj Verma accompanied Rakesh on tabla. Neeraj Verma a
noted tabla player is disciple of K.L Verma and also trained by Yogesh Samsi of Ustad Allah Rakha Khan Gharana. Crispness and clarity of his technique and a total command of rhythm are the classic hallmarks of his styles.
Hitesh Badyal President Nirvana Academy thanked J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages for their kind support to make this event a success. He appreciated the vocalist Rakesh Kalotra and said that he is credited with attracting the young generation towards Indian classical music by his magical voice.
Mukesh Kumar accompanied on tanpura and Maninder Sharma on Harmonium.
