Nirvana Academy celebrates World Earth Day 2016
22 April 2016: In an attempt to save
mother earth, and with the idea to promote awareness and education to save our
planet from various man made evils like pollution, global warming,
deforestation and more, “ Nirvana Academy a Cultural club organizes awareness
programme at Dr Ambedkar Convent School, Rajpura Jammu. Mrs Chetna Dogra was
the chief guest on the occasion.
Programme commenced with the welcome speech of
Meenakshi Sharma General Secretary Nirvana Academy. Speaking on the occasion, Meenakshi
Sharma General Secretary NA made participants to know about the effect of
climate change & ways to migrate it highlighting green issues to
demonstrate support for environmental protection.
Students of
Dr Ambedkar Convent School presented a Dogri play “My Love for Birds” on the
occasion. Skit was directed by Rohit Sharma and Anju Chakku. The play
highlights the issues related in saving birds and environment in urban cities. The
story of the play had four different parts in which groups of house sparrows
and crows in urban cities discussing the role of nature and its environment and
sidelined the storing and confronting problems pertaining to the degradation of
the environment and conservation of nature. In the first part, the group of
sparrows recalled the time, when children were woken up by parents in the
morning by their cajole that, “Son, see, the sparrows have come, crows have
come, parrots have come.
The poor
birds have to bear the brunt of bad trend of society and they are deprived of
their life sustaining food and nobody is paying attention to feed them, leaving
them starved and ultimately leading to death. Apart from this, the bird
population is declining due to the harmful electromagnetic waves emitted by the
tall mobile towers standing as symbols of modern telecommunication system. The
exhaust fumes released by countless vehicles carrying toxic substances has a
catastrophic effect on birds population.
In the third
section of the play, the characters performance raised the issue that
conservation of forests and agricultural tends into dwelling units and
factories is the main culprit, threatening the birds population. They further
showcase that the pushing of many species of birds to the border line of
extinction is due to deforestation coupled with environmental pollution and
habitat destruction.
The play
also highlights the role of birds in our culture, traditions, rituals and
mythological history. In the end play highlighted the importance of
preservation of wetlands and the extinction crisis threatening nature’s global travelers
that is Migratory birds. . A debate on earth day was also organized on the
occasion. Programme aims to inspire awareness and appreciation for earth’s environment.
While Speaking
on the occasion, Chief guest Mrs Chetna Dogra made participants to know about
the effect of climate change & ways to migrate it highlighting green issues
to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
Principal of
the school Mrs Sarla Mattoo remembered Senator Gaylord Nelson, Founder who on
April 22, 1970 first organized the day to promote ecology and respect for life
on the planet as well as to encourage awareness of the growing problems of air,
water and soil pollution. She also presented vote of thanks on the occasion.
Participants
on the occasion were Riya, Prerna, Aditi, Sakshi, Pooja, Sudhanshu, Sadiq,
Deepak and Nishant.
