RAMBAN, June 08: An awareness camp cum debate competition on the theme of ‘Child Labour’ was organized by Department of Labour in collaboration with Nirvana Academy a cultural club in the premises of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir (BVM) High School, here today.
Tehsildar Ramban, Gurpreet Singh, Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC), Ramban Ganshyam Basorta and Deputy Chief Education Officer (DyCEO) Ramban Bal Ji Thaploo besides principal of the school Pardeep Singh Thakur were dignitaries on the occasion.
As many as six students from the school participated in the debate competition.
Speaking on the occasion Tehsildar Ramban, Gurpreet Singh laid stressed on the acute need to protect the child from this menace of Child Labour.
He said that labour department should work in liaison with education department and various NGO’s to trace the whereabouts of the school dropouts who may be probable child labours .He stressed on generating more awareness to curb the problem of child labour and protecting the rights and interests of minors.
ALC Ganshyam Basotra apprised the students and staff about number of welfare schemes which can be handy for rehabilitation of children. He further said that it is a need of hour to strictly deal with it and stringent action under the Law should be taken against those found guilty of employing minors as labours.
He added that need was felt to spread the awareness among the general public.
He stressed on ensuring that the provisions of various Acts for labour welfare are implemented in letter and spirit and there is strict adherence to norms by the organisations. ALC said that the department is entrusted upon with the responsibility to maintain dignity of labourers and protect their interests.
Bal Ji Thaploo said to keep hold of this practice education department has started several schemes including free education, mid day meal, free uniform and books for the students in government education institutions.
Principal of the school thanked all the dignitaries present and request the Labour Department and Nirvana Academy Chief Organisor Ramban Tahir Mushtaq to conduct such programmes in future also.
In the debate competition Shakshi Parihar, Parinita Puri and Yudhveer Singh Chib won first second and third prize respectively. Whereas stage proceedings were ably conducted by Meenu Puri.
